Planning for the filming:
Being that this is the first season I realized early on that I wasn't going to be able to take a crew with me to film. So I did what any respectable filmmaker would do – I panicked! Then I settled down and spent the next months meeting, interviewing, and picking the brains of countless Hollywood movie-makers. I trained to gain as much knowledge as possible about each and every job usually handled on a typical shoot. At the same time I became a recluse, spending whatever time I had left researching equipment, methods, tips, tricks, and read whatever anyone had to say on countless forums. This time proved invaluable on the shoot.
The process of filming:
Exhausted - the only way I can describe the way I felt after the 5 weeks of shooting had ended. I carried my humble 45 lbs of equipment everywhere we went and became a man film team. Although I admit there were many times when I received a helping hand from my fellow travelers so that I could hop in front of the camera and dish a little info for the viewer. A tip for anyone attempting to film your own adventure is organization, organization, and more organization. It will make or break you.
