TravelMoxie is a website and show dedicated to the alternative traveler. We won't show you many five- star hotels or fancy epilogues. Instead, the goal is to bring you the best travel stories and destinations from around the world. Immersion is the key, and cheap are the means!
TravelMoxie is a show dedicated to the alternative traveler. We won’t show you many 5 star hotels or where you can purchase that $1000 Versace bag. Instead, this is a series dedicated to showing the lesser-known methods of travel. We’ll interview and hang out with the locals, travel the lesser-known routes and create our own, and at times strive to just live as the locals would. The goal is to provide knowledge for the traveler who truly wants to be absorbed into the mix of another culture. Immersion is the key – and cheap is the means!
Each Season TravelMoxie will feature a new alternative method of traveling and a new destination. We’ll strive to share secrets and travel tips as they’re learned by our MoxieTravelers (you can help too by posting tips on the "Say Hello" page).
If you’ve always wanted to travel, but the idea has seemed a bit too daunting, too expensive, or just out of reach, watch out – you might just realize how easy it is.
Season 1: Study Abroad Destination: The Imperial lands of JAPAN
Next year – You’ll have to wait and see!
Kevin Neuburger is a 25 year old photographer, journalist, producer, and student of culture. He was born and raised in Southern California and currently spends his free time photographing the culture of Los Angeles and producing culture-focused video content. An engineer by day and an entrepreneur by heart, TravelMoxie is his brainchild. Like most people, traveling was on a never-ending wish list of things he wanted to do in his lifetime. He studied abroad for a semester about two years ago and that ignited a new passion and opened the door to new possibilities!
A year and a half ago I took a semester abroad in Prague, Czech Republic. It was one of the most life changing experiences of my life. I started with a simple fascination for the world and culture outside of America, knowing little to nothing about either. I could not even point on a map to the general area of the Czech Republic. However, over the following 5 months my curiosity and little knowledge changed into an overpowering fascination and great desire to become a student of all the cultures throughout the world.
While doing some filming for a Korn show in Sweden I made a couple new friends, Martin, Freddie, and Christian. Christian, it turned out, was born in Chile and was adopted as a baby by a Swedish family. He had never met his mother. So, in a somewhat drunken state, the initial plans were laid to take a road trip from Southern California to Chile to meet Christian’s mom. This plan was never executed. However, from that story and my many others emerged the idea for TravelMoxie.
As I traveled through 13 different countries and made friends with fellow travelers and students from Australia to Sweden, Berlin to Brazil, an immense appreciation for all the minute differences people possess developed inside me. The people I met increasingly amazed me. I cant think of the shop owner in Berlin who let my friends and I stay in his store overnight while he went home to sleep without a smiling creeping onto my face. The endless stories I came home with will forever remind me that people will always surprise and can never be stereotyped.
Back at home with a network of friends from around the world and a head full of knowledge to share I set out planning the first season. I caught wind of a Study Abroad program to Japan and, being that I was already studying the language, it seemed like a natural choice to launch the new show. Don't mistake TravelMoxie as a show focused on Study Abroad though! Its much more than that!
